The Astoria Says Hello to Multigenerational Living with the Driscoll Family

Multigenerational living might seem outdated to today’s generation, but many will be surprised to know it is a growing trend in the United States. According to a Pew Research Center American community survey, 47% of Americans live in a multigenerational living situation. In an interesting new twist Atlanta luxury condos, The Astoria at The Aramore, are also taking part in this trend.

In 2009, Bob and Lee Driscoll downgraded from their large Buckhead home for a luxury, less maintenance home at The Astoria. Two years later, the couple welcomed their son, Matt and Lee’s mother, Isobel Cooper.

Mrs. Cooper came to live at The Astoria after her husband passed away. Although she was capable of living on her own, her inability to drive lead to concerns from Bob and Lee. After some debate, they decided Mrs. Cooper would move to the Astoria. Living in her own unit, she has her own privacy and life but is only a short elevator ride away if anything is needed.

“This is much better than having her live with us or in assisted living or a facility for the elderly,” Lee Driscoll said. “She has her privacy and her own lifestyle and so do we; but if she has issues or concerns, we’re right here. I can check on her or take her shopping and she come to dinner and we don’t have to drive her home.”

Matt Driscoll, who happened to be in the market for a new Midtown condo, convenient for running his online collectible bookstore, agreed wholeheartedly with his parents that The Astoria had everything he was looking for in a new home and more. With multiple floorplans and custom features, no two homes are the same in this Peachtree Battle highrise.

“It’s a great situation, we each have our own space and our separate lives but we are close enough to rely on each other when need it,” says Matt Driscoll.

Located “in the living room of Atlanta,” The Astoria is within walking distance of some of the best restaurants, shops and other entertainments the city has to offer. And with reduced prices of up to $500,000, living in The Astoria is now more affordable than ever.
